For the first time breaking with tradition, the Scala decided to integrate LED technology into the scenes: a huge 12x9m backdrop and two LED columns were inserted into the scenes designed by Giò Forma for the 2018 annual premiere. The filming, produced by Rai and directed by Davide Livermore and Paolo Gep Cucco became the narrative element to tell the prologue of the Opera, while 3D scenarios recreated an illusory landscape of destroyed cities covered in rubble, parts of bombed churches and stormy skies. The fresco by Raffaello, picturing the meeting between Leone Magno with Attila was transformed into a 2D animation, with the painted characters coming to life. A great success for the public and critics for an innovative and a project of extraordinary.
